Another by product of this is Phuket as an in demand filming location for films, documentaries and t.v. programs.  Here are a few of our favourite films, and where you can find the locations on Phuket Island.

The film focuses on the terrors of the Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia and is based on the experiences of 2 jounalists. The film features the French and American Embassies in Phuket Town.

Casualties of War:

This harsh Vietnam War movie used locations in Kanchanburi, Phang Nga and Phuket when filming in 1989, as filming in Vietnam was impossible at the time due to the strict political regime. It starred famous 80's and 90's actors Sean Penn and Michael J. Fox.

Good Morning Vietnam:

This 1989 film starring Robin Williams was set in Vietnam but actually most of the jungle scenes were filmed in Phuket for the same reasons as above.
